Rural residents to continue receiving health care from Adventist Health thanks in part to Bank of America grant
Hundreds of disadvantaged rural residents in Fresno, Tulare, Kings, and Madera counties will continue to receive free health care in their communities each year thanks to the new mobile clinic formally unveiled on September 4 by Adventist Health Central California at its Hanford medical center.er
Bank of America's $30,000 grant marked a pivotal moment for the program, enabling the replacement of one of the program’s two mobile care unit vehicles, which had been phased out due to age. The new mobile care unit will serve more than 600 patients annually.
“Although Adventist Health operates eight hospitals and more than 100 clinics throughout the Central California Region, residents in more remote areas still struggle to access medical services. That’s where the Adventist Health Mobile Care Unit services fill the gap, and Bank of America is proud to have helped make it possible to purchase and equip this new unit,” said Fresno and Visalia Market President Mark Riley.
The mobile care units are large vehicles that operate like a regular clinic staffed with a doctor and nurse, along with a community health worker to assist with social services and a patient care coordinator who handles the intake process. There are two patient exam rooms to provide wound care, vaccinations, lab tests, sports and back-to-school physicals, general health education, mental health referrals, blood pressure screening, pregnancy tests, and preventative screenings.
